About the Recipe
Even when it's cold outside, my family always enjoys a fresh batch of homemade ice cream! This recipe is a family favorite and is simple to make with only 6 ingredients! This recipe produces amazing flavor - but with no artificial ingredients or preservatives found in commercial ice-cream.
If you don't have an ice cream maker, or are in the market for a new one, check out the Whynter 2.1 Quart I have on my Products I Like page. It's a solid unit, has a great price, and has over 2,000 positive reviews on Amazon. It produces a quality ice cream and is a breeze to clean up. Unlike other smaller ice cream makers - this one requires no pre-freezing and no ice!

Ingredients
3 cups heavy cream
1 cup whole milk
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract
4 egg yolks
10 Oreos
Preparation
Step 1
Over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, milk and sugar. Stir occasionally until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is lukewarm.
Step 2
Place egg yolks in a bowl and whisk until fully broken up.
Step 3
Slowly pour the egg yolks into the saucepan mixture - continuing to whisk while incorporating the ingredients. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly for 8-10 minutes. The mixture should be thick and coat the back of a clean spoon. Do not allow the mixture to boil, otherwise the mixture could curdle. If mixture does curdle, start over.
Step 4
Add the vanilla and stir.
Step 5
Pour the mixture in your ice cream maker, and allow to freeze for 10-15 minutes
If you don't have an ice cream maker, I have one I highly recommend on my Products I Like page. It has over 2000 positive review on Amazon, including a strong one from The Proud Pioneer!
Step 6
While mixture is freezing, place Oreos in a freezer back and crush with a rolling pin. Crush to a fine texture then stop your ice cream machine and pour crushed Oreos into the ice cream mixture. Continue to freeze for 40-45 minutes or until desired consistency is achieved.
Store any you did not eat right away in a sealed container in the freezer for up to 3 weeks. But trust me it will not last that long!
